Here are some of our young musicians playing at the school's open evening, which as well as being a fundraiser for the school was a family night with many fun activities - which included throwing wet sponges at the head (I don't think this was much fun for Tricia, but at least she had the good spirit to take part!), Since the music takes place in the school every Wednesday, we were invited along to play a few tunes, and the younger children lead by Keren, Anna and Mhairaid played some lovely polkas, jigs, reels and hornpipes which were appreciated by parents and children alike.

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Scottish Fleadh yesterday! We want to thank all competitors for their hard work in preparing for the fleadh, especially for all those who were competing for the first time. Everyone played really well in the beginner whistle competition, and all received medals for their effort, with Natasha Newall winning the Enya Doohan trophy for first place, this trophy was donated by the parents of a little girl who sadly passed away at the age of five.

Our under 12 ceili band played excellent together, especially since this was their first time performing!

On Friday we had our first branch function of the year which was a charity night in "The Post" to raise some money for the Haitian Disaster, this turned out to be a successful night, with one of Annie's famous quizzes and a bit of a session. Several of our young class members played in the session, and were joined with other musicians who gave a few solo spots. We had renditions from Benedict Morris, Johnny Boland and John McShane, and the night closed with a few songs and tunes from Johnny, Gerry and the boys. Over £450 was raised towards the charity, thanks to everyone who attended and to James and all the staff at "The Post" for their generosity.

We are half way through the summer break and looking forward to the new term commencing on the 26th August with classes at the normal times, but just before that, we have Fleadh Cheoil na h'Eireann in Tullamore for the 3rd consecutive year. There are several qualifiers going through to this from the All Britain fleadh in Twickenham in June, and for Jamie McGregor this will be his first ever All Ireland. Jamie, who only started competing this year, won the under 12 Ceili band drums at Twickenham and is excited about taking part in the All Ireland Fleadh
We wish Jamie every success, and to Daniel, Siobhan, Sean, Davy and Grace who qualified also.
This year we organised a coach to take us to the All Britain Fleadh in Twickenham, leaving at the unearthly hour of 4am on Saturday morning and returning in the early hours of Monday morning. The journey was great thanks to Ian the driver, the weather was glorious, and the Fleadh went smoothly. Well done to all who took part, especially the Senior band who managed to overcome a few nerves and got 6th place (out of 6 entries).
